Delta – for Migratory Birds

Delta is a suburban municipality located in the far south/west region of British Columbia.  Surrounded by the Fraser River to the north, Boundary Bay and the US border to the south, Georgia Strait to the west, and the municipality of Surrey to the east, Delta is place with a well balanced farming and agricultural community.

With its moderate climate, Delta’s waterways are rich with waterfowl, birds of prey, and other wildlife.  The Pacific Flyway, a major north/south route of travel for migratory birds, has two key areas of interest – Boundary Bay and the Alaksen National Wildlife Area, both of which are in Delta.  These two areas have been listed as ‘important bird areas’ by the Government of Canada due to their importance in the survival of migratory birds.  Every year, ducks and geese in the hundreds of thousands decend on the area to seek refuge and to rest on their long journeys south.

Delta is encapsulated within Region 2 of the Lower Mainland Managment Units.  Waterfowl hunting is permitted in designated areas, with the proper licensing (see link to BC Hunting Regulations for more information).
Where do you hunt in Delta?  Well, the good spots are closely guarded secrets, of course.  The other areas, open to the public, are listed under the BC Hunting Regulations.  For obvious reasons, you’ll have to look up those areas yourself.
Just please remember – respect our environment, make as small a footprint as you can while out in the waterways, and take out what you bring in.  That includes your spent shotgun shells!
